‘This annual one-day festival is based around the City Road
Lock, Basin and towpath alongside
the Regents Canal, also local
streets
and a park, in Islington,
North
London. ?> Attractions include Stalls, a Children’s Fun Fair with Rides & Bouncy Castles, Punch & Judy, Story-teller, Boat Trips (20mins & 45 mins), Art Projects including free ’Have-a-go-at-Pottery’ sessions, an Outdoor Art Gallery, Live Music (Folk, Ska, Brass, Jazz, Ukuleles) & Street Theatre. There is also a Regatta with free ‘Have-a-go-at-canoeing’ sessions and Bell-Boat Racing. Arsenal in the Community stage their ‘Penalty Shoot-outs. There is a free Lucky Programme Draw at 4pm, with 2 prizes: £100 cheque or an Arsenal signed T-shirt or Football.’

There are 80 stalls or gazebos arranged along the towpath, Graham St & Danbury St & Graham St Park selling anything from canalware, crafts, books, clothes, jewellery, bric-a-brac, a wide range of hot and cold food and non-alcoholic drinks. As well as local businesses, many local and national charities take stalls to raise awareness and give advice. There are two public houses on site, The Narrow Boat and The Prince of Wales. |

We are proud to say that each year, the Mayor of Islington, arrives by boat from the London Canal Museum and opens the Festival by giving a Welcome speech at 12 noon before starting the Bell-Boat Race in the Basin at 1pm.

Our aim is to produce an enjoyable day-long Festival celebrating the Regents Canal around the City Road Lock and Basin area promoting the canal as an historic, local, community, environmental and leisure asset for all to enjoy.
Latest News from the ACF Team
Due to all London Boroughs benefitting from additional finance from the GLA to help celebrate the Olympic Games, Islington Council have decided to enhance 2 established Islington events, the White Cross Street Market at the start of the games and the Angel Canal Festival towards the end. This has resulted in additional ‘SHOWTIME ENTERTAINMENT’ at both venues. At the Festival there will be 9 additional forms of entertainment ranging from performances, exhibitions and walk-about street theatre.
